Jarmann loads and components

I recently got a Jarmann M1883 and I'm looking for reload info for the ammo.

Specialy the cases and what bullet moulds to use. Can anyone help me get started?

You can use cases from Bruce Bertram in Australia or fire form .348 Win. cases. The latter will be a tad shorter than the regulation case though. You can contact Bertram directly at b.bertram1@bigpond.com.


Original case to the left, unfired Bertram case, and a Bertram case shot a couple of times in my rifle.

There are several available moulds you can use. Here is a picture of a few of the bullets I have tested:



From left to right: Lyman 403169, N.E.I. 350 411, N.E.I. 350 411 sized down to 10,19 mm, Marmann bullet (custom made), and a swaged bullet from the company formerly called Parabellum, now hjemmelading.no.

Some information about the bullets:

- Marmann bullet with some tin in the alloy: Measures about 10,20 mm, but the base measures 10,32 mm.
- Lyman 403169 (Designed for.40-82 Win.): Measures about 10,39 mm.
- N.E.I 350 411: 10,50 mm diameter.
- N.E.I 350 411: sized to 10,19 mm.
- Paper patched swaged bullet from Parabellum: Sized down to 10,19 mm. 10,34 mm as patched.

The unsized N.E.I. bullets are a tad too large for my chamber.

I tested these bullets a couple of years ago. I used the following load:

- Federal Magnum primer
- 70 grains Wano PPP
- SPG bullet lube

The results shot at 56 metres, blow tube between shots:


The Marmann bullet: 105 mm.


Lyman 403169 (240 grains): 56 mm.


N.E.I 350 411: 50 mm.


N.E.I 350 411: sized down to 10,19 mm: 78 mm.


Paper patched swaged bullet from Parabellum: 31 mm.

Yes, it was a smooth sided 337 grains paper patched bullet, quite similar to the one that is pictured to the far right above.

Same notes of brass



Origial rim thicknes was 2.5 mm.

Bruce Bertram has promist to make brass with 2.3 mm rimthicknes.

Bruce tould me that he is able to make the new set february

I think it is cod if all who need these are making the order so he can make all needed. These thin ones are suittable for Werndl M 1877 and will fit after expand shooting.:waving:

Hi,
This is indeed good news for I think it will be verry hard for me to find casses for my Jarmann overhere in The Netherlands.

At the moment my Jarmann is over at the restaurators to have the stock repaired and restored to its original luster. So that gives me some time to find the reloading components. Does anyone have any idea howmany casses Bruce is going to make and what they are going to cost?

For now I happy shooting with my Trapdoor and Beaumont Vitalli but I cant wait to shoot the Jarmann.

I think it is best to ask Bruce and make the order beforehand.
I do not know if he is selling those directly to buyers.
