What is the

going rate for a M1774/1841/51 rifle? I have the chance to buy one which still has its pillar breech.  The wood is very good with the black finish wearing thin in places, the barrel has some sort of dark finish on it and is mildly pitted.  The bore is a bit rough but has good strong rifling.

Hello Fabian23
Here is one for sale, but he has been trying to sell it for a long time. So I think the price might be too high? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=93648381

Thanks JK, I knew about that one, but I called the seller a while back and that particular one does not have its pillar anymore.  The one I am looking at does have its pillar breech...and is a tad cheaper too :-)

I was hoping for some of our Scandavian friends to give me an indication of what the rifles go for up there as a guide.

I was considering that one which is still bouncing around Gunbroker, I have been offered a good price, but it does have the pillar missing.  Is there any chance of finding an original breech with a pillar or a repro?  Also the buttplate screws would need replacing.

I know therifleshoppe.com reproduce the breech for the slightly later carbine version, but would it fit?

:-)
