who can give me information about a hunting rifle side by side cal 16 and 500 black powder 2 5/8 made by a Norwaine gunsmith Halvor Torgersen & Co?
I am interessed in the history of the gun and the factory.

But you coud may be translate it to dutch. There is a book about him and other Norwegians gun smiths, the books name is ( Blant Pistolsmeder og Bøssemakere) written by John. Sv Dahl. You may order it on some net butique.

Very interesting that they used one fluid steel barrel and one damascus barrel.

The shot gun barrel is damascus and the rifle barrel is fluid, i tink if the rifle barrel were damascus barrel, it woud break... But it is a nice item:-)

I'm afraid this is "just another" Belgium gun, but with one mildly interesting detail: The rear stock seems to be a later Norwegian stock, but I would need better pictures to be sure.

As far as I know, Halvor Torgersen & Co, later Torgersen & Co, even later Torgersen Sport, never produced firearms. They did, however, sell rather many. One finds a fair amount of the Belgium Larsen tennstempel rifles marked Torgersen and also other guns. It was usual in the latter half of the 1800's to mark the imported Belgium weapons with the sellers name and not the producers. These were most often mass produced objects for sale through anybody that could sell them.

Torgersen Sport in Stortingsgaten entered bankruptcy in the 1990's as far as I remember. They tried to expand with another 3-4 shops and it just did not work.

My paternal great-grandfather Halvor Torgersen III 1848 - 1919 ran a general hunting and gun store in Christiania (now Oslo) in the latter part of the 19th century.  It was probably taken over by his brother Ludvig Torgersen, under whose name it existed in the centre of Oslo in Stortingsgaten street.  HT had a commercial education and was not a gunsmith himself.
