I am trying to identify this rifle and the type of bullet it fired . the under side of the barrel is stamped 21, HL and FM. The lock is stamped T8066. The octagonal barrel is 13mm widest measurement and 12mm side to side

I have now "slugged" the barrel . Each Land (8) is concave thus the inner bore, .475, is cylindrical. The bore is .514  and the rifling has a 1:42 twist. The barrel is just under 32 inch (810 mm)

Was the rifle made to fire a conical bullet or patched ball ?

A fine looking rifle you have there. Perhaps a close-up picture of the rear sight might help?

Mind you I certainly am not an expert, but I would be incline to think it has a possibility of being German.
Have you checked with the German Gun Society http://www.germanguns.com/  ?
Please do let us know if you have any luck.

Thank you for you help. I have resisted to join the German Gun Society  but have not had a reply from them yet.
