The Buffalo Arms reformed 12.7X44 brass fits the CH4D #57 shell holder, but the Bertram 12.7X44 rim is too thick and does not fit in the #57 shell holder.
Does anyone know what shell holder does fit the Bertram brass? Buffalo arms did not have one in stock that fit.

Thanks, John

Olav Heidenstrøm.

CH4D have a nr 42 shellholder that fits the Betram brass  ,12,17x44 R.

I have several here if you wish I can send you one .Happy Easter , Olav.

Hi this is an old post, I know, but it has to do with the same difficulty I have with finding a shell holder to suit the Bertram brass for the 12.7*44. CH4D has none nor does Buffalo Arms have any and I cannot find them anywhere. Does anybody have one they might want to sell or know where they may be found?

I ran into a similar issue a while back with Bertram brass, and availability can really be hit or miss depending on the batch. The rim thickness seems to vary slightly, which makes standard shell holders unreliable. If you can't find the CH4D #42, another option is to check with small custom machining shops, as some shooters have had holders slightly opened up to fit.

You might also try contacting other black powder cartridge shooters directly, since these older calibers often rely on community trading rather than regular supply. Posting in a few more niche forums or groups can sometimes turn up someone with a spare.

Hi!

Would not a RCBS #5(348 win) fit?

Another thing you could look at is slightly modifying a more common shell holder if the dimensions are close enough. Some people carefully relieve the rim recess or polish it to get a better fit, though obviously you want to go slowly and check often to avoid ruining it. It's not ideal, but it can work in a pinch.

Also worth checking is whether different production runs of the brass behave differently. Sometimes mixing batches can actually make the problem worse, so keeping them sorted might help with consistency. These older calibers can be frustrating, but usually there's a workaround with a bit of trial and error.
